Mentoring the Next Generation

Working with younger children has taught me that leadership is often found in the small moments—taking the time to explain something, encouraging someone who is struggling, or helping a child discover the confidence to try something new. Through my experiences as a first-grade teacher’s aide, summer camp counselor, woodworking instructor, and SplashBall mentor, I have learned to lead with patience, encouragement, and responsibility. I enjoy sharing what I know, but I have also discovered how much younger students can teach me about curiosity, persistence, and seeing challenges from a different perspective. Mentoring kids has shown me that making an impact doesn't always require doing something big; sometimes it begins simply by showing up for someone.
