Why Service Matters

From the time I was young, I knew I wanted to be part of something bigger than myself. I knew there was an entire world beyond what I could see, a world to explore, understand, and experience. That curiosity became an inner flame, pushing me toward adventure, challenging me to dream bigger, and making me wonder what I might contribute along the way. I don’t know exactly where that drive will take me, but I know I want a life filled with purpose, discovery, challenge, and service to something greater than myself.

Service is more than giving your time it is recognizing that you have a responsibility to contribute to something larger than yourself. Through volunteering, mentoring younger students, environmental projects, and community initiatives, I have learned that meaningful leadership begins with showing up, listening, and being willing to do the work alongside others.

These experiences have taught me that impact does not always come from one big action. It is built through consistency, teamwork, and a willingness to step forward when something needs to be done. Whether helping my local community, supporting younger students, or participating in projects beyond Hawaiʻi, service has strengthened my understanding of leadership and the responsibility we have to one another.

For me, service is ultimately about using what I can do to make a difference for others and leaving a community stronger than I found it.
