Working as part of a student team, I helped turn creativity into meaningful community impact by participating in a collaborative fundraising project benefiting Habitat for Humanity. Through a creative endeavor of creating a Hogwarts for Hawai’i, a Harry Potter themed world for the community to explore and use their imagination.

Together, with my friends and fellow students, we combined our different ideas, talents, and strengths to create an experience that brought people together around a shared purpose. Through our collective efforts, we raised $32,000 to support families in Lahaina through Habitat for Humanity, demonstrating to me what can happen when people work together toward something larger than themselves. The experience reinforced an important lesson about service: meaningful change rarely happens alone. It happens when people bring their skills to the table, listen to one another, and work together to turn an idea into action.

When we hand-delivered a $32,000 check to Habitat for Humanity, I realized the amount represented something far greater than a number.

Every dollar represented someone choosing compassion over indifference.

Someone deciding that another family's future mattered.

Someone helping restore not just a house, but hope.

That experience reshaped my understanding of service.

Service is not measured by recognition or titles. It is measured by whether another person stands a little taller because you showed up.

My own family's story and loss to Hurricane Dorian taught me what it feels like to receive that kind of generosity. Hogwarts for Hawaiʻi gave me the opportunity to become part of it.
